On our way to Blue Duck Station a 7,200 acre high country farm at Whakahoro (pronounced fukahoro). we stopped at the most tourist destination in New Zealand Huka Falls which is fed by Lake Taupo which was created by a volcanic eruption in 181AD and the beginning of Waikato River. This is a narrow chasm with water flowing every 3 seconds to fill an Olympic size pool. After this onto Taupo for a dip in the thermal water falls which also feed into the Waikato River. These falls are almost unbearably hot you need to move around to find a comfortable spot.

The road to Blue Duck Station was a very narrow winding dirt road our driver Nat has to be commended on her driving skills. When we arrived past the population of 8 sign and we all sat around drinking tea and coffee to get ourselves acquainted with the station. Once booked in we were off to our lodgings for the next 2 nights.

Woke up to a nice day and Sharon and I went on a hike to Blue Duck Falls and a return trip of 2.5 hours before lunch and on to our activities we chose. Sharon horse riding and myself skete shooting. Unfortunately skete shooting was an international competition  and I put Australia in second place and lost to Switzerland.

Sunday saw us on the way to National Park Village at Waikune for breakfast and then a great 2 hour walk to Taranaki Falls with Mt Ngauruhoe in the background (Mt Doom Lord of the Rings or Mt Fuji The Last Samurai) and then a small walk to Tawhai Falls where Gollum caught fish.

Now we are staying at an old Hospital site with the accommodation that use to house the doctors and nurses in a town called Raetihi and the accommodation is called Snowy Water Lodge overlooking the snow capped mountain of Ruapehu.

Onwards to Wellington. Last day on the North island for awhile.  We stop in a little town called Ohakune the carrot capital of NZ....had to get a picture!!

Then on to Taihape the gumboot throwing town.  Now in Wellington which has been the capital since 1865 and is named after the first Duke of Wellington, Arthur Wellesley.
